Cyber Ireland Dublin Chapter: Cybersecurity & AI in Software Development

On March 12, 2025, the Cyber Ireland Dublin Chapter, in collaboration with the UCD School of Computer Science and the Advance Centre – Professional Education for Digital Transformation, hosted an insightful Industry & Academia Meeting at University College Dublin.

The event brought together leading experts to explore how AI can enhance security across the software development lifecycle, particularly in the era of 6G and Open RAN deployments.

Panel Discussion:
We were honored to have Dr. Madhusanka Liyanage, Director of Network Softwarization and Security Labs (NetsLab), join an esteemed panel alongside Liliana Pasquale, Fergus Harney, Ray Genoe, Adam D’Arcy, and Fabio Cerullo. Dr. Liyanage shared key insights into AI-driven security solutions for 6G and how they can be seamlessly integrated into modern software development practices.

Research Showcases & Project Presentations:
Several cutting-edge research projects from NetsLab and University College Dublin were showcased at the event:

ARMOR Project – Presented by Chamara Sandeepa, this project focuses on security verification and testing for AI-native Open RAN systems, automating security validation, detecting vulnerabilities, and enhancing resilience in the evolving 6G Cloud-Edge continuum.

ENSURE-6G Project – Represented by Charuka Moremada, this initiative emphasizes security advancements in next-generation 6G networks.

ROBUST-6G Project – Showcased by Thulitha Theekshana, this project explores AI/ML-driven security solutions for the 6G era, addressing robustness and reliability.

Confidential6G Project – Presented by Lavan Perera, this research delves into confidentiality and security challenges in 6G networks.

Key Takeaways:
The event underscored the critical role of trust, security, and robustness in AI-driven network automation. As AI becomes central to Open RAN and next-gen networks, ensuring secure, resilient, and reliable AI-driven operations has never been more important.

A big thank you to Cyber Ireland, UCD School of Computer Science, Advance Centre, and all the experts who contributed to this impactful discussion! Looking forward to continued collaboration at the intersection of AI, cybersecurity, and 6G.
